Her grading system is completely arbitrary. She is obviously a very good artist, but you can tell that she resents being a professor. She is demanding not in terms of effort but in terms of talent (which leaves most of the class with nowhere to turn). She is difficult to talk to, because she can be very insulting. She should just calm down and everyone would enjoy her class more.

I have to agree with the last comment. Professor Stark was the best teacher I've had this year. She's quirky, but who isn't? I think she responds more to students who are genuinely interested and having fun with their paintings. It doesn't matter what style you paint in, it only matters if you're serious and motivated within your style. Intro to painting has been a great place to work on my own paintings in a really open, friendly (and sometimes crazy... in a good way) environment. Take this class if you need a fine arts, it's a lot of fun.

I disagree... I'm in her painting class right now and she's been very open and accepting of different styles of painting. I don't think she likes my style, but she's still very supportive and gives good advice about how to PAINT, not how to paint a certain style. She's a little quirky, but that makes it fun!

She's a little wierd, and at first I didn't like her. Not being an artist (I couldn't draw at all), I took Drawing Fundamentals for fun. I was the worst artist in the class, and she really taught the class assuming that everybody had some basicc drawing skills (I didn't). I became a much better artist and am glad I took the class, but her class definately wasn't designed for people like me without skills.

weird as hell. She is living on another planet. She doesnt give good constructive criticism to improve your paintings. She really only gives good grades to people who paint in the same style she does. Only take her if you have to.
