maybe she is better in upper division classes but as far as intro goes, she is horrible. it was like she was holding it against everyone in the class that she had to teach an intro level course, as if it was too below her. also, no one cares that she went to brown though she will remind you of that every class meeting, also that her husband went there, and one day there will be a little spot at brown for her children, no one cares. she says study guides do not help but will not properly prepare you for a test, one really does not know what to expect. hopefully you are good at memorizing info and regurgatate the material on a tricky multiple choice task. hands down one of the laziest and disorganized professors. stay away. plus her intro exercises involving race are pointless and stereotypical, she would not admit that the concept of race was a social construct until after telling me i was wrong several times, so condescending. i know that i am not the only one.

Professor Sewell is an amazing professor if you take her in her subject area which is egypt. I however hated her when I took her for intro to anrthopology. She was disinterested and dull. However, I loved her ancient egypt class, she had a lot of wonderful anecdotes and really seemed to enjoy having discussions about it. I would recommend only taking Sewell for upper level courses.

A great prof. Really knows her stuff. She loves Egypt and it shows. The amount of enthusiasm she brings to the class is great. One of the best profs I've had.

Sewell is genuinely a nice person, but her lectures are uniteresting and boring. On top of this, she is not clear at all as to what she expects from an essay, and would mark one or two things, and give me a low grade. It was very frustrating. I met with her, revised some essays, but she never gave me the grades back. Take her only if you need to, or, i guess if she likes your writing.

Sewell gave me the first B I ever got on a paper, and I was thankful for it. She grades based on your level of argumentation, and her points are dead on. The class is pure discussion, and the homework consists of papers only, so you have to put a lot of work into them. She is really cool and friendly, and very supportive of our learning processes. Definitely worth taking.

I thuroughly enjoyed this class. PRofessor Sewell is an amazing lecturer. Be careful, her voice is very harmonious and may put you to sleep. Her stories are fantastic and she is very nice about homeworks. If you do most of the work for the class you will get an A.
